Contrary to people’s beliefs, winter is actually still a great time of year for real estate. Sales happen regardless of season - there has even been a house price increase of 9.2% since the beginning of June!

Less competition with fewer houses on the market.

Typically choices for buyers are more limited during winter so it may be easier for your property to stand out, especially given your property is less likely to be lost in a crowd of listings.

Winter brings out only the serious buyers.

At this time of year, buyers are usually more committed, only buyers who are serious about buying are in the marketplace. They are ready to buy, and don’t want to wait until Spring and increase their chance of missing out. During winter you also tend to have less tyre-kickers.

Warm and bright homes do particularly well in winter.

If buyers have a warm and bright home on their wish list (which is likely given it’s a popular pre-requisite) then a home presented as a warm and homely haven has an even better chance of appealing to buyers in winter. This is when the season can actually play to your advantage and you can reap some pretty powerful seasonal benefits.

Reduced supply, and increased demand will often result in higher prices.

With less competition on the market, sellers may actually find themselves getting prices that they were not able to get in Spring and Autumn. Often during winter, the market is fast and the competition is sleeping, so go for it!

You will be in a stronger position to buy.

With more houses coming onto the market in spring if you have already sold this can give you a vital advantage when it comes to buying your next home as there’s a good chance that others buyers will have to make offers with subject to sale conditions of their current home whereas you’ll be cashed up and ready to strike!
